This is my absolute favorite apple pie recipe, served with some cold vanilla sauce! Yum!
1 Pie
Ingredients
Pie Crust
- 2 1/4 cups All Purpose Flour
- 1/4 cup Powdered Sugar
- 1 1/4 cups Cold Butter
- 3 tbsp Cold Water
Apple Pie Filling
- 7 Apples
- 1/4 cup Butter
- 4 tbsp Granulated Sugar
- 2 tsp Cinnamon
- 1 tsp Ground Ginger
Egg Wash
- 1 Egg
- 2 tbsp Milk
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix together all purpose flour and powdered sugar.
- Add cold butter, chopped. Pinch it all together until even.
- Add cold water and work into the dough.
- Divide the dough into to pieces, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least a half hour.
- For the filling, melt the butter in a frying pan and add 7 peeled and diced apples. Add the sugar, cinnamon and ground ginger. Mix together and let it sit on the stove for about 5 minutes. Let cool.
- Roll out one half of the dough and place in a pie tin and push the edges a little bit.
- Fill the crust with the apple mixture.
- Roll out the second half of the dough and cut into 9 strips.
- Place five strips over the pie vertically.
- Fold up every other strip and place one strip across the pie horizontally. Fold down the strips. Repeat this step until the pie is fully covered.
- Press the strips and edges together. Cut any excess dough around the edges.
- For the egg wash, whisk together the egg and milk, and brush on top of the crust.
- Place in the oven at 350 degree F or 175 degree C for about 45 minutes. Let cool.
